FSSAI registration is the process by which a food business obtains a Food License Number (14-digit FSSAI number) issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. This number must appear on every food package or outlet board and confirms that the business follows food-safety and hygiene standards under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Every person or entity involved in manufacturing, processing, packaging, storage, transport, distribution, catering, or sale of food must obtain an FSSAI license.
This includes:

FSSAI registration can be obtained for 1 to 5 years, as chosen during application. Renewal should be done at least 30 days before expiry to avoid penalties

1️⃣ Basic FSSAI Registration (Form A)
Applicable for small food businesses or startups with an annual turnover up to ₹12 lakh.
This registration is issued by the Local Food Authority of the respective area.
2️⃣ State FSSAI License (Form B)
Required for medium-sized food businesses with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore.
This license is issued by the State FSSAI Office in your respective state or union territory.
3️⃣ Central FSSAI License (Form B)
Mandatory for large food manufacturers, importers, exporters, and businesses operating in multiple states, or having an annual turnover above ₹20 crore.
This license is issued directly by the Central FSSAI Authority.

         - Kitchen Photos (preparation area, washing area, storage, packaging, entry/exit)

         - Employee Health Certificates (for large setups)
         - Nomination Form (Form IX) in case of companies / partnerships 

👉Central Licence (More than ₹20 crore turnover or operating from more than 1 state)
✅ Issued by Central Food Safety Commissioner through FoSCoS portal
When Central Licence is Required:
A Central FSSAI Licence is mandatory if your business meets any of the following conditions:
1️⃣ Operates in two or more states (even if turnover < ₹20 crore)
2️⃣ Has central kitchen supplying to multiple outlets across states
3️⃣ Is registered on multiple delivery platforms and operates through aggregators pan-India
4️⃣ Has annual turnover > ₹20 crore
5️⃣ Engages in inter-state distribution or export/import of food items
6️⃣ Functions as an e-commerce food business operator (aggregator / delivery partner)

4️⃣ Incorporation / Partnership / Proprietorship proof (COI, Deed, or MSME)

6️⃣ List of Directors / Partners with contact details

B. Infrastructure & Operations
7️⃣ Proof of possession of premises – Rent Agreement / Ownership / NOC from landlord
8️⃣ Layout plan / blueprint of kitchen or processing area
9️⃣ List of food processing machinery & equipment with installed capacity
1️⃣0️⃣ Water Testing Report from NABL-accredited laboratory (for potable & processing water)
1️⃣1️⃣ Food Safety Management System (FSMS) Plan / HACCP Certificate
1️⃣2️⃣ Photos of kitchen area, storage, washing, packaging & delivery zone
1️⃣3️⃣ Employee medical fitness certificates (where applicable)
1️⃣4️⃣ NOC from Fire, Pollution Control, and Local Authority (as applicable)

C. Financial & Regulatory Proofs
1️⃣5️⃣ Proof of turnover – CA-certified balance sheet / ITR / Sales statement
1️⃣6️⃣ Board Resolution / Form IX nomination (for companies)
1️⃣7️⃣ Authorised Signatory ID Proof
1️⃣8️⃣ Bank account proof – Cancelled cheque or statement
1️⃣9️⃣ GST Certificate (if available)
2️⃣0️⃣ Aggregator registration / inter-state supply proof (for cloud kitchens or delivery operators) 

Normally 3–7 working days, depending on the application type, state authority, and accuracy of documents submitted.
Delays occur if inspection or clarification is required by the authority.

✅ Yes. Platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon Food, Flipkart and food aggregators require sellers to mention a valid FSSAI number before listing their products.

Operating any food business without a valid FSSAI license is punishable with:
✅Penalty up to ₹5 lakh, and
✅Closure of business premises by Food Safety Officers.

You can verify your license anytime on the official FSSAI portal (https://foscos.fssai.gov.in ) by entering the 14-digit license number printed on your packaging or certificate.
